Dr. Jan White, DVM

Dr. White is a 1990 graduate of the University of California at Davis. She earned her BS degree in Social Work and completed graduate work in veterinary medicine.

She spent 32 years doing community organizational work with animal rescue groups ranging from stray and orphaned pets, animal care of indigent pet owners, to organizing wildlife rehabilitation on local, regional, and national levels.

Dr. White worked for 15 years as the Executive Director for the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council promoting wildlife conservation and education. She also worked hands-on intensively providing veterinary and management services for oil spill response from Seward, Alaska to Long Beach, California.

Practicing small animal medicine for the last 25 years, she brings a wealth of experience to animals in her care. She actively participates in continuing education courses to stay on top of new methods of care in animal health care services. Her special interest in infectious diseases puts front and center the veterinary duty to inform and prevent infections from traveling between animals and their human families.

Dr. White is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Washington State Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, Wildlife Disease Association, and Washington Wildlife Rehabilitators Association.

Dr. Meg Lainson, DVM

Dr. Meg Lainson originated from New York City and received her veterinary degree from Colorado State University. She did her post graduate work at the Denver and London Zoos, treating everything from rhinos and snow leopards to anacondas and scorpions.

She came to the San Juan Islands in Northern Washington State in the 1980's and established an all-species veterinary practice and Wolf Hollow Wildlife Centre. Her wildlife rehabilitation experience led her to assist animals caught in many oil spills from Washington to California, including the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska in 1989.

Dr. White met Dr. Meg in the 1980's and they became good friends. Dr. Meg worked at the Renton Veterinary Hospital for a year before she immigrated to Canada.

Dr. Lainson followed a long-term dream to relocate to Victoria where she has worked for the last 8 years. She was able to hone her skills in the large and small animal practice that also provided emergency care. While there she provided excellent care for a wide array of birds, amphibians, reptiles, goats, sheep, llama, alpaca, pigs and mini-horses. This is actually very unusual as most veterinarians see only a few species of animals. Now, she has returned to Washington to assist Dr. White with animals at Sawyer Lake Veterinary Hospital and South Sound Critter Care (wildlife).

Dr. Lainson is a professional singer and dancer and has performed in many theatre musicals including "West Side Story" and "The King and I". She also enjoys ultramarathoning, kayaking, globe-trekking, scuba, playing mbira (an African musical instrument) and acapella African singing. She has a weakness for fuzzy-faced dogs and is owned and managed by an australian terrier , an otterhound and a goffin cockatoo.
